Mission Statement

Team Room: War, Hope, and Growth exists to educate local churches, pastors, chaplains, seminary students, military caregivers, and other organizations on the importance of an integrated Christ-centered approach to trauma-informed care among combat veterans and their family members.

Team Room - A specified place to gather, train, and equip

War - Armed conflict between nations or people groups

Hope - Expectation in a better future grounded in Jesus Christ

Growth - Developing a new story and thriving in life after war

Biblical Rationale

While there are many passages of Scripture to support the importance of meeting the needs of others while sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the three passages that have shaped Team Room: War, Hope, and Growth in developing an integrated Christ-centered approach to trauma-informed ministry are the following.

Proverbs 18:15

"An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge."

 Matthew 9:35-38

"And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.'”

Luke 10:33-34

"But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him."

Compassion implies providing a practical response to those in need. According to the context of Matthew 9:35-38, the mission field given to the Church includes those who are struggling and do not know where to turn (harassed and helpless). So to provide a loving and practical response that fulfills both mandates of evangelism and culture, local churches should seek and acquire a foundational knowledge of traumatic stress and moral injuries caused by war to properly address the struggles our war fighters and military families are experiencing. A true holistic approach that cares for image bearers in mind, body, and spirit.

Impact

From the classrooms to small group settings in the United States and in Ukraine, Team Room: War, Hope, and Growth not only teaches but also applies the lessons personally among fellow combat veterans and their family members.
